A copy of your data held away from your premises, so that a fire, a flood, a theft or ransomware does not take the backup with the original.
Why on-site backup is not enough on its own
A USB drive or a NAS in the same building protects you from a failed disk and nothing else. Anything that affects the premises affects the backup sitting next to the server. Ransomware is worse still: it looks for attached storage first.
How it works
- A secure connection is made to our servers, over VPN or a dedicated connection
- Your server checks what has changed, encrypts it, and sends only that — so after the first run the nightly transfer is small
- It runs automatically every night, and we are notified if it does not
- Data is encrypted in transit and at rest
What you need for it
An ordinary business internet connection with a reasonable upload speed — from about 1 Mbps up, depending on how much changes each day. No dedicated line and no hardware on your side beyond what you already have.
Getting data back
Restores are the part that matters, and the part most backup systems are never tested on. We can return individual files or a full copy of your data, and a restore is something we check rather than assume.
